Kim Hines

THEATER ARTIST: As an Equity Actor, Kim has performed at a majority of the theaters in the Twin Cities area including the Mixed Blood Theater, Illusion Theater, Penumbra Theater and the Guthrie Theatre.

As a Playwright, Kim's work has been performed in the Twin Cities, and most of the United States.

She has had four productions and two national tours produced by the prestigious The Kennedy Performing Arts Center in Washington, D.C.

 As a Director, Kim has worked with many theaters in town including Theater Mu, Park Square, Theater in the Round, The History Theater, Illusion Theater, Augsburg College; and numerous independent production houses. Productions out of town include Cornell University in New York, University of Northern Iowa and Kansas University.

Along with the many grants and commissions Kim has received for her work, she was a recipient of the Bush Fellowship awarded for her playwrighting. She is an Alumni Core Member of the Playwrights' Center and Actor's Equity Association. Kim spent more than a decade as an Artistic Associate at Illusion Theater in Minneapolis.  She has been an associate member of TCG, and  a member of the Screenwriter's Workshop. She has sat on the Boards of ASSITEJ, Intermedia Arts (now defunct) Corning Dance Company, and At the Foot of the Mountain Theater Co. (now defunct). She is presently sits on the Advisory boards of Theatre Unbound, and The History Theatre.



Kim has a BA in Speech & Theater and Visual Art from Macalester College, St. Paul, MN. She occasionally teaches script labs and playwrighting classes.  


Kim worked as a consumer visionary for the creative think tank: Idea Greenhouse (now defunct).


 ART / GRAPHICS: Besides being a theater artist & educator, she also has a background in Visual Art. She spent  almost a decade as a typographer, designer and illustrator--ran a commercial graphics business for a small print house and was a part owner of a cooperative graphics business.


MUSIC: In the realm of music, Kim directed several choirs for over a period of 15 years. She composed and arranged music for acapella voices, and taught African American choral music.


EDUCATION: Kim has over 35 years of teaching experience, from kindergarten to college to adult education. She's taught all forms of theater, writing, along with  music, and history.
